Car Emergencies: Be Prepared
You can be prepared for when your car fails you. He may have been the man when it came to car repair, but you are not alone. Following these few steps will keep you mobile and on the road when time is of the essence…
1) AAA. Buy a membership. Don’t skimp. Get the most expensive policy you can. Then, keep your card in your purse and their phone number (along with your membership number) in your phone. Left the lights on? Ran out of gas? Got a flat tire? Just won’t start? All it takes is one simple phone call. They are waiting by the phone to be your knight-in-shining-armor or at least fix your immediate car woes. And it works at home, in a rental car, or any car that you happen to be in. Why go anywhere without it?
2) GAS CAN. Buy (a new) one. I recommend at least a 5-gallon one. Throw it in your trunk. It’s gonna happen eventually, and if you have a friend to give you a ride, just grab the empty can and go fill it up. Save the stress and be prepared.
3) TIRE REPAIR KIT. I recommend the Slime 70005 Safety Spair kit. Truckers use the green slime when one of their big tires goes out. Your tire repair guy is gonna hate this goo, but whatever… All you do is attach the hose to your tire valve, plug in the kit to your cigarette lighter, attach the air hose to the cartridge nozzle, and push the Green button. 7 minutes later, you should be back on the road… If you’re in the middle of nowhere, and don’t know how to change out the spare tire, this will work in a pinch, at least until you can get to the tire shop and buy a new tire.
